Turning point

Will this now be the turning point?

We hear loud voices,

We see buildings ablaze,

We feel the anger rising.

 

Will our voices now be heard?

I can’t breathe,

My hands are up,

Everything hurts,

They once cried.

 

Will the melanin be treated justly?

Our hearts are heavy,

The stories too many,

The tears not enough,

Their response pathetic.

 

Will society take action?

For too long the truth has been buried,

Innocent lives taken,

Families torn apart with grief,

How cruel.

 

Will those in power protect?

Badges of honour they wear,

Their actions despicable,

Their words meaningless,

Their treatment inhumane.

 

Will change take place?

Our voices must be listened to,

Justice must take place.

The truth shall be evidenced,

Light will conquer the darkness.

 

What can you do?

Acknowledge the injustice. 

Educate yourself beyond the media fed to you.

Love always.
